This course will improve the pieces students make by studying everything from fashion to surface pattern decoration as well as all manner of printed, dyed, constructed, embroidered and woven textiles.
Whilst studying Textiles at KGV, you will work in an expressive and creative way; engaging with art, design and fashion disciplines. You will be expected to develop an open and exploratory approach to your work and to develop skills that could stretch across fashion and textiles, and eventually meet industry led standards. Working alongside professional British textile designer Karen Casper will be part of the enrichment experience that you can expect, alongside a wealth of workshops, international trips and creative experiences. Students that study on this course have recently gone on to University to study a variety of subjects including Fashion Design, Fashion promotion, Surface Pattern, Fine art Textiles, Constructed Textiles and Fashion illustration and Fashion Photography.
Our Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design course has an outstanding reputation for producing innovative, professional designers. We look for talented, hard-working people who will develop their own ‘handwriting’, both anticipating and setting future trends within this field. You’ll work in our open plan studios alongside your peers where we foster a culture of creativity alongside a strong work ethic. We adopt a broad approach to specialist aspects of the discipline, which includes print, digital, textiles and innovative surfaces. You will use our specialist workshops for screen-printing, dyeing, digital printing, laser-cutting, material innovation and more, in addition to utilising industry-standard software for creative design in our Mac suites. We love creativity, critical thinking and design in all its guises, but equally we recognise the desire to make a living doing something so wonderful, which is why we place a strong value on offering real world experiences and employability. You will be given opportunities to experience industry-standard trade fairs which in the past have included Indigo (Paris), MoOD (Belgium), Surtex (USA), and New Designers (London). You will also have opportunities to participate in a number of live briefs, competitions and employment related activities to ensure that you are as best prepared for industry as possible.
